Getting Accepted at Work
Being accepted at the office
Summer is here and you’re thinking about whether or not you’ll
be shedding layers of clothing, hitting the gym to tighten up your buttocks
or will it be plastic surgery before you regain some confidence in your
appearance. Whoever said: “Looks don’t matter it’s what’s
inside a person that does” was lying. The first thing people notice
about you is your appearance. What people see first leaves an initial impression
that is never forgotten. Your wonderful personality comes second. Here
are a few ways of making your first impression count. Before you can exude
confidence there are 4 things you must do.
1st Know who you are if you have a few body
parts that are larger than normal, avoid clothes made of spandex. You
know that clinging stretch fabric. Use the fitting room and take a look
at yourself before you buy anything. That is what fitting rooms are for.
Notice the way your stomach sticks out if your clothes are too tight.
Wear shirts with room to move or a jacket you can leave open. If you
know you have no flesh in your derriere why are you wearing tights? Wear
pleated slacks and you will look professional. If you are a short person
wear the same color top and bottom for continuity it will elongate you
and make you appear taller. If you wear a uniform match the colors. Wear
hills for sophistication not 5 inch stilettos they belong on stage or
at a gala. When in doubt look at your boss and try to imitate his or
her style. They can’t fire you if you look like them.
2nd Groom because taking care of your self
is the key to the confidence you portray. Wash your hair as often as
you can. “When in Rome do
as the Romans” That means if most of corporate dresses professional
do the same. Dress the part, going to a job interview or business meeting
wearing your favorite leather mini or spaghetti strap see through blouse
with your open toe sandals may be great for the club but it is unacceptable
in the business world. Look at a magazine once in a while and copy the
CEO featured. You’ll be promoted before the next person. Simply iron
your clothes, remember your deodorant, wear short sleeves not sleeveless,
close shoes not open toes.
Guys don’t wait until Sunday to shave. If you’re going to
wear a beard keep it trim and clean you’ll look neat and polished.
Don’t allow your nails to grow long it only looks good on women,
and that’s if they keep them clean.
3rd Speak one language as well as
you can.
There is nothing better than an articulate person. If you don’t
look like a supermodel it is better to sound eloquent and intelligent.
If you speak one language learn it well. If you speak more than one,
pick the one most vital to your existence and learn it as well as you
can. Build up your vocabulary you cannot keep using four letter words
to express yourself. The word thing in every sentence makes you sound
like a 5 year old. Speak slower than your superior it works every time.
4th Assert yourself, be ready for anything,
show the world how capable you are and you will be less likely to miss
a good opportunity. Remember to be polite while being assertive. Being
timid does not mark you for promotions. Sometimes the best person for
the job just didn’t look the part.
You cannot escape who you are or your heritage. You can only be the best
you that you can be. Live, Love, Laugh and Learn.
